The Ministry of National Defence website has to meet high standards of public communication, accessibility and content management, so this project called for more than a visual refresh – it needed carefully considered technical and information architecture.
A solution to match the scale of the institution
The Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Lithuania is the institution responsible for developing the national defence system, its readiness for defence and the fulfilment of international commitments. A website for an institution like this must be not only representative, but also clear, reliable and easy to manage in day-to-day communication.
The system in use before the redesign was built on old code and an inflexible admin environment. Managing content required excessive technical involvement even for simple everyday tasks. On top of that, a confusing site structure made information harder to reach for visitors and harder to organise for the admin team. This called for a structural solution, not a cosmetic update.
Solutions that transformed content management
Daisoras ran the project from architecture planning through to launch. One of the most important tasks was reviewing the site tree and reworking the information architecture. This was an analytical process as much as a technical one, driven by the need to lay out content more clearly, simplify navigation and create more logical connections between areas of information. The result is a structure where the most important information is reached faster and content sections are clearly linked to one another.
A custom WordPress admin system was also built for the project, tailored to the institution’s specific needs. This isn’t an off-the-shelf solution but an environment adapted specifically for this project, making day-to-day content easier and more efficient to manage. Flexible templates make it possible to build distinctive interior pages and thematic landing pages without extra technical involvement, so the website can grow alongside the institution’s communication needs.
A solution built for easy management and growth
The project uses a custom WordPress-based solution, covering PHP, a custom theme, a specially tailored admin system, Timber and Twig templating logic, Composer library management, a Webpack front-end build, and JavaScript, jQuery, HTML and CSS. WCAG 2.1 accessibility requirements – essential for public sector projects – were also implemented.
A result that improved both use and administration
The final result is a clearer institutional website that is easier to manage and ready for further growth. The reorganised information architecture helped lay out the most important content more logically, so visitors can find relevant information faster and the admin team can make everyday changes more simply and efficiently.
